Although ArcView GIS 3.3 is an old software and discontinued, it is still used by some people because of its powerful ability for simple shp processing and also has the advantage of having a lot of map layouts in one project. Arcview GIS is a Geographical Information System trendsetter in the 90's. In addition, up to 50 MB of disk space may be needed in the Windows System directory (typically, C:WindowsSystem32). You can view the disk space requirement for each of the 10.3 components in the Setup program.

If using ArcGlobe, additional disk space may be required. ArcGlobe will create cache files when used.

Video/Graphics adaptor

64 MB RAM minimum; 256 MB RAM or higher recommended. NVIDIA, ATI, and Intel chipsets supported.

24-bit capable graphics accelerator

OpenGL version 2.0 runtime minimum is required, and Shader Model 3.0 or higher is recommended.

Be sure to use the latest available drivers.

Networking Hardware

Simple TCP/IP, Network Card, or Microsoft Loopback Adapter is required for the license manager.

Software requirements

  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop.
  • Internet Explorer requirement:

Microsoft Internet Explorer (minimum IE 9) must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop. Internet Explorer 9, 10 and 11 are supported.

  • Python requirement for Geoprocessing:

ArcGIS for Desktop geoprocessing tools require that Python 2.7.x and Numerical Python 1.7.x are installed. If the ArcGIS for Desktop setup does not find either Python 2.7.x or Numerical Python (NumPy) 1.7.xinstalled on the target computer, Python 2.7.8 and Numerical Python 1.7.1 will be installed during a complete installation of ArcGIS 10.3.x. You can choose a Custom installation to unselect the Python feature and avoid installing it. Additionally, if the Python setup is executed during the ArcGIS for Desktop installation, you will be provided with the opportunity to choose its installation location. The Python installation location should not include spaces.

Printer support

ArcGIS supports printing to any Microsoft certified Windows printer using the native driver in ArcGIS. Note that some printer drivers do not support complex maps, and the ArcPress printer driver or additional hardware may be needed for these complex maps.

Note:

Esri recommends the following configuration when printing large maps with the ArcPress printer drivers:

Arcview 3.3 Windows 10 Iso

  • If large complex maps do not print, reboot the computer to ensure the pagefile system is cleared. If the pagefile system is not a dedicated drive or partition, make sure the drive does not need to be defragmented.
  • Disk Space: at least 10 GB of free space is required on the drive where %TEMP% is located, as potentially large temporary files will be written there while ArcPress is processing a map for printing.

For more information on supported printers, refer to the following Knowledge Base FAQ: What printers are supported by ArcGIS for Desktop?

Software required to connect to a DBMS

Your client machine (for example, the one running ArcMap) will need to have the appropriate client files installed for the RDBMS you are using. These client files are available from their respective RDBMS vendors, but some are also available on My Esri as a convenience. See Database clients for more information. RDBMS client files available from My Esri are IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. Client files for ALTIBASE, IBM Netezza, Oracle, SAP HANA, and Teradata are not available on My Esri and must be obtained from the RDBMS vendors.

History

ArcView started as a graphical program for spatial data and maps made using Esri's other software products. Its functionality was greatly expanded at version 2.0 to include a new GIS file format, the shapefile, and a powerful object-oriented scripting language, Avenue. ArcView 2.x and 3.x became a fully functional GIS program and featured extensions similar to those available in ArcInfo Workstation, including Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst. Its simple GUI was preferred by many over the less user-friendly, more powerful ARC/INFO.

ArcView GIS 3.3

ArcView GIS 3.3 is still currently available, but a retired product, and many users still use the older version. ArcView GIS 3.3 is offered for both Unix and Windows variants. Version 3.3 was released May 22, 2002 and is currently sold and has 'mature support' for multiple platforms.

All Esri produced extensions for ArcView are currently supported in 3.x with the exception of ArcView IMS2. ArcView IMS was discontinued on 1 June 2004, and replaced with ArcIMS. An older version of ArcView was available for Macintosh, version 3.0a, however this version was retired in 1997. ArcView 3.3 is compatible with Windows XP, however, does require the user to apply a patch to work properly. This patch is available for download from Esri's product support website. ArcView GIS 3.3 is not supported in Windows 64-bit, since it is a 16-bit application.

Connect to MS Access

One of the basics of GIS is providing a connection between data and imagery. All 3.x versions work with an underlying DBF database (dBase III, IV). Many users prefer a connection to an MS Access database, because of its widespread use. For users that still have Access 97 or earlier, this can be done with a free practical script called AccessConnect [1]. Users who have a more recent version of Access will encounter problems with this script. For the ArcView 3.x users with more recent MS Access versions, there is a free bypass program available.[1]
